When your career is at a standstill, you can do two things: stay put or take action. Marko chose the latter. He moved to Axelio and created his own unique position there. This way, he is challenged and does what he truly enjoys.
Hi, I am Marko Godeke and I am a Cloud Engineer at Axelio in Hengelo. I live in Hardenberg, do a lot of sports, and am always up for a night out with my friends. In the evenings, I often enjoy watching a series or gaming.
I started in March 2021. Before that, I was at another IT company, but I felt I couldn't grow there. The work also didn't quite align with what I enjoy. I was about to start applying for jobs when I got in touch with Axelio through a mutual connection. To help me get started, the manager invited me for a mock interview so I could get a feel for the upcoming interviews. But while I thought it was just a casual chat, the manager had a different perspective.
I quickly realized that Axelio better fits my goals and ambitions. I find the infrastructure side of the company very interesting. That's why I made the switch to Cloud Engineer. This transition happened quite organically. At Axelio, you can simply express what you enjoy doing, and they truly listen. Since I still wanted to be the link between both companies while also engaging with infrastructure, we critically examined how I could fill my new role. As a result, I can now take on both roles. I am gradually phasing out the support tasks and going out into the field more often. But my goal is to remain the link between both companies.
As a Cloud Engineer, you are engaged with the latest developments every day. So whether you are a junior or senior; you are never done learning. This means you never have to sit still. Of course, there are moments when I don't understand something and hit a wall. Fortunately, there are always colleagues ready to help me out. They let me struggle for a bit, but in the end, I am never alone. I believe that's the best way to learn.
We have all kinds of clients, from healthcare to manufacturing and everything in between. This makes it very versatile. Of course, our technical work is similar for each client, but it is still very different to work for a potato farmer or a law firm. Because we do everything together, a client is not dependent on just one colleague. We can all take over each other's work when necessary. Additionally, we work long-term with our clients, which allows us to get to know each client well.
Make it a topic of discussion! If you are at a nice organization, they will help you find something you enjoy doing. If that doesn't work out, then you just have to make a choice. Working reluctantly is really not worth it; I have experienced that myself. So look for something else because you are spending a large part of your week there anyway.
